As Enugu State PDP file out to elect House of Assembly candidates for the 2023 election Hon Mrs Amaka Ugwueze looks good for a second term

Her works speak for her. Youths have found her a pillar of strength. Widows are glad she stands in the gap for them, Children are getting the education they deserve because she is their benefactor and mentor. In just 17 months, Hon Mrs Amaka Ugwueze, member, representing Isiuzo Local Government in Enugu State House of Assembly has captured the imagination of the masses with her good works and grassroots politics.

And having found her faithful in her first term, the whole 11 wards in Isiuzo say that one good term deserves another. It is therefore expected that the 44 delegates, four for each ward, that will vote in the House of Assembly primary will choose her as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, flag bearer for the 2023 election.

In the run-in to the primary she interfaced with Isiuzo delegates who acknowledged her effective representation with a rousing welcome on May 19.

She used the opportunity to appreciate the Isiuzo people for their solidarity and support during her first term. She appealed to them to give her the opportunity to serve them again to enable her to consolidate on the good foundation she had laid.

The delegates acknowledged the good work she is doing for the local government council and promised to support her. She is expected to defeat two other contenders easily because of the good job she is doing in the House and in the 11 wards of the Local Government.

One good term deserves another, say the delegates

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, begins its primaries today with the House of Assembly and House of Representatives amidst uncertainties.

On Friday, May 20, the Party issued a statement signed by Umar M. Bature, national organizing secretary, affirming the use of elected delegates for the primaries and national convention.

“By virtue of Section 84(8) of the Electoral Act, 2022, delegates to vote at the Indirect Primaries and National Convention of political parties to elect candidates for elections shall be those democratically elected for that purpose only.

“Consequently those qualified and eligible to vote as delegates in the forthcoming Primaries and National Convention of our great Party, the PDP are the three (3) AD-HOC Delegates per ward, elected at the Ward Congresses and one (1) National Delegate per Local Government, elected at the Local Government Area Congresses.

“Furthermore, the NWC wishes to inform our Party members that the State Houses of Assembly Primaries to elect our State House of Assembly candidates, earlier scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2022, will now hold on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 8:00am to 12 noon; while the House of Representatives Primaries to elect our House of Representatives candidates will also hold on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 2:00 pm.

“All aspirants, critical stakeholders, leaders and teeming members of our Party should please take note.”

Politicians were apprehensive that President Buhari would sign the latest amendment to the Electoral Act to enable statutory delegates to vote but the State House could not confirm if he will sign or not. He has 30 days to sign or reject a bill.
