The plot to highjack Labour Party and kill their petition at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal suffered a setback this Friday, May 19, as an Abuja high court granted a stay of execution of the court ruling which Lamidi Apapa and his group are using to disorganise to the party.b

At today’s sitting Labour Party’s lawyers and Apapa’s lawyers faced off. Labour made an oral application for a stay of execution as they had filed an appeal against the ruling at the Court on Appeal.

Apapa’s lawyers opposed the oral application for stay vehemently. However, since all evidence of a valid and subsisting appeal was before the court it was an uphill climb.

The Judge finally granted a stay of execution, pending the determination of the appeal. The judge equally reprimanded Apapa for going to take over the leadership of the party.

Consequently, Apapa cannot present himself at the tribunal as the representative of Labour Party, like he did on Monday.

He also got a court ruling earlier today at a Kano high court that the candidates submitted by the Julius Abure National Working Committee for the 2023 elections, especially the National Assembly election, were null and void because they did not originate from the Apapa Group.

Apapa has been accused of working for, and being funded by the APC to disorganise Labour Party, an allegation he has denied.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal case continues today at the tribunal, sitting at the court of Appeal.

There was drama at the Presidential Appeal Petition Tribunal as a SAN who stood up to represent Apapa group was thoroughly reprimanded for accepting such a brief from an unknown group and was shamefully walked out of the court by the Judges.
